Workshops, teaching and talks
Maz is passionate about making architecture more inclusive and inspiring the next generation.
They have lead, spoken at or organised workshops and programs teaching modelmaking, art and architecture.
They work as Social Value Lead for architecture practice Stanton Williams where they oversee the practice’s programs for young people, bringing in new charity collaborations and encouraging everyone in the practice to get involved. They were instrumental in the practice winning The Best of Built Environment Practices at the 2024 Inspire Future generations awards. At the 2025 awards Maz was a finalist for Inspiring individual of the year.

Institute of Making UCL
Modelmaking masterclasses and festival activity
Maz lead modelmaking masterclasses for the institutes members to learn about making at scale. Members made 1:10 scale furniture and a 1:250 façade of the UCL East building that they were in.
Parts of the workshop were then used for an activity at the institute’s festival of stuff.
Manchester Society of Architects x AIM
Casting workshop
As part of program of events during a Making Matter exhibition Maz lead a workshop casting architectural textures. Participants carved and sculpted architectural patterns taking inspiration from photos or the exhibition. Everyone left with a colourful cast of the design made in soap.
Future Architects program
A 5 workshop program
For the last couple of years Maz has organised Stanton William’s program for students from a local college, aimed at giving opportunities to those under-represented in the profession. Made up of 5 workshops, including visiting one of our buildings that we use as a case study students learn about what makes an architect.
They come away with work that they can use in an architecture portfolio.
Leeds Beckett University
Modelmaking lecture and workshops
Maz joined 1st year architecture students at Leeds Beckett to give a lecture about modelmaking in practice and lead workshops for 90 students.
Narrative Practice x Stanton Williams
Mentoring events
Maz organised for Stanton Williams to host mentoring events at their studio in collaboration with Narrative Practice.
Narrative Practice aims to improve diversity and representation within the profession. For each event they matched 40 mentees with a Stanton william’s team member and one of their own mentoring team.
Build The Way at Stanton Williams
Modelmaking workshops
Maz lead workshops at Stanton Williams for trainees from Build The Way to experience a day in the life of a modelmaker.
We have also supported them with prototyping their work for their final showcase.
Open City Young City makers
Children’s modelmaking workshop
As part of a team with Stanton William’s colleagues Maz taught year 5 students about architecture and worked with them to make of models of their design proposals.
LDEUTC Women and Girls in S.T.E.A.M
Key note speaker
Maz was invited to be a key note speaker at LDEUTC as part of their women and Girls in S.T.E.A.M. in 2026.
They spoke about their career and overcoming challenges.
In previous years they been part of panel discussions at the college alongstide their Stanton Williams colleagues.
V&A and The Building Centre
Online make-a-long casting workshop
Maz lead an online make-a-along as part of a programme of events connected to a V&A research project about architectural models.
The session was aimed at teachers, introducing them to the basics of casting so that they experiment with casting in their classrooms.
Open City Accelerate
Mentoring and casting workshops
Maz has taught plaster casting on Accelerate’s Saturdays classes for sixth form students that want to learn more about working in the built environment.
With Stanton Williams colleagues Maz has mentored as part of the program in years 2022- 2026.
Arts University Bournemouth
Modelmaking guest lecture and workshops
Maz was invited back to speak at to modelmaking students at that the course they studied at in 2013.They spoke about their experience in industry and their love for architecture.
Manchester School of Architecture
B:15 Modelmaking awards judging
Maz and Stephen Setford represented Stanton Williams, joining the B:15 team to judge modemaking awards for students on architecture degree courses in 2023 and 2024.
