Abstracting Familiarity

Co-curated by Maz Weineck and Lucy Pickford. Between them, they’ve brought together a selection of artists who sit in different places in the wider world of architecture. Carving different routes to find themselves, seeking a more playful way of expressing their passions for buildings, landscapes, and interiors.

The exhibition is about the abstract and the playfulness of the built environment. Bringing together a group of artist architects/artist-model makers, we explore both the artistic side of place-making and draw on 1 Poultry itself. It will include a curated series of existing pieces - taking us on a journey from the whimsical through to the abstracted form - rethinking the average approach to architectural design. Much like Stirling himself, with his ‘worm’s eye’ axos of his buildings, we’ll play with the form of the building to bring it to the edge of familiarity. This will be explored through drawing, illustration, painting, textiles and sculpture.

The exhibition hosted a series events including workshops, mentoring and talks.
